Common issues
Slow speed
- Many servers throttle aggressive parallel range downloads. Try setting Max Threads to 1–4.
- Some networks throttle large downloads. Try another network or a VPN (if legal and allowed).
- Device power saver modes can slow background work. Keep the app in foreground during testing.
Unknown size / streaming mode
If the server does not provide Content-Length or does not support range requests, HDown will switch to streaming mode. In streaming mode:
- progress percentage can be unavailable or shown as indeterminate,
- resume may restart from the beginning (to avoid corruption),
- speed is still shown based on real-time bytes received.
Resume not working
- Some servers ignore the
Rangeheader and always return status200. In that case HDown may restart from zero to avoid appending incorrect bytes. - If a file is changing on the server, resume may be rejected (ETag/Last‑Modified mismatch). Restarting ensures correct content.
Leftover temp parts / storage not freeing
Use Settings → Clear All Private Data. This deletes cache, temporary parts, and encrypted resume state. It does not delete finished files from the Downloads folder.
What to include in a bug report
- Android version + device model
- App version
- Server domain (do not share private tokens/URLs)
- Whether the server supports resume/range downloads (if known)
- A screenshot of the error and the Detail screen
